Homeschooling Parents are always on the lookout for supplemental materials to fill in some learning gaps or to reinforce lessons taught at home. Its what we do. It doesn’t mean we don’t try our best to cover most materials, we just want to make sure our bases are covered.
Some subjects are harder than others, for instance, Math. Math is one of those subjects that needs to be fully understood and mastered from the early lessons in order to successfully complete higher and more challenging Math.
Here comes Matific. We were given access to Matific’s School Platform for 30-day free trial for a quick overview.
What is Matific?
Matific is an online platform that offers a problem-solving approach to math mastery. They offer hundreds of personalized and adaptive learning story-based video lessons (episodes and about 5 mins viewing time) with games and worksheets to make learning math fun. Matific is considered unique because it’s designed to reduce anxiety in math and build confidence.
Age Range: It covers math materials from grades Kindergarten to 6th Grade. Matific is fully aligned to multiple states’ standards AND with popular (within the homeschooling community) math textbooks like Saxon Math and NYs Eureka Math and enVision Mathematics.

How does Matific work?
The school account is available to teachers and schools districts. It provides state standards, student tracking, and individual teacher classrooms. You can assign student-specific work based on concepts.

Costs
You can start a free 7-day trial then is about $12 a month per month or $80 annually. However, I’m not exactly clear if this is for a single grade or family access to multiple grades. As a homeschooling family with multiple kids, quality materials and reasonable costs are a factor when purchasing resources.
How We Used Matific Math
What’s pretty cool, I can assign targeted areas of instruction based on my kids’ specific needs and through the teacher portal, I can assess their progress and grades. Additionally, the interactive games’ graphics are appealing to kids, so asking them to “work” on math skills wasn’t a battle.
It’s suggested to use the program 30 minutes a week to really increase math sense, but because some of the lessons can be really engaging for the kids, your kids may want to log on a few times a week.

Overall Impression
Matific is a fun and engaging way to reinforce math materials. I appreciate having the option to search grade-appropriate activities and worksheets by Matific topics, textbooks, or curriculum. It is extremely important for my family when the material is aligned with National Standards because my state does require reporting and it gives me reassurance that my kids are being exposed to some of the same materials as traditional students.
However, because I was given access to the school account and not the homeschooling account and within a very limited time frame, I know my kids didn’t fully benefit from the program and I’m not sure of the parental benefits of the parent zone features.
